The
Sabbath is
forever. We are our forefather Abraham’s seed
(See
Genesis 2:3, Exodus
31:16-17
& Romans 4:11-18)
compiled by Brother L. Harrell
'So
the sons of Israel
shall observe the sabbath, to celebrate the sabbath throughout their
generations as a perpetual covenant.' "It is a sign between Me and the
sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth,
but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed."
(Exodus 31:16-17 [NASB])
so
that the
promise should be made sure to all Abraham's true descendants; not
merely to those who are righteous through the Law, but to those who are
righteous through a faith like that of Abraham. Thus in the sight of
God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and makes reference
to things that do not exist, as though they did, Abraham is the
forefather of all of us. As it is written, "I have appointed you to be
the forefather of many nations." (Romans 4:17 [Weymouth New Testament])
"Then
God blessed
the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His
work which God had created and made." (Genesis 2:3 [NASB])
“Behold
Israel
after the flesh:” (1 Corinthians 10:18a [KJV])
Why would we need to consider the people of Israel “according to
the flesh”? That reference proves there is an Israel “not
according to the flesh”. (See Ephesians 2:11) Jesus was and
is the King of Israel.
Nathanael
answered
Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of
Israel." Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to
you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see
greater things than these." (John 1:49-50 [NASB])
“Rejoice
greatly,
O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of
Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and
endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a
colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Zechariah 9:9 [NASB])
“took
the
branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to
shout, "Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even
the King of Israel."” (John 12:13 [NASB])
We being adopted by an Israelite, Jesus Christ, the King of
Israel, we (Gentiles) have become His brothers (heirs), and therefore
are Israelites (not according to the flesh, but by faith in
Jesus). By faith in Jesus (who was of lineage of Abraham),
Abraham the father of faith, is the forefather of all of us.
“just
as He chose us
in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and
blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as
sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention
of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely
bestowed on us in the Beloved.” (Ephesians 1:4-6 [NASB])
For the greatest part, the Gentiles
were not part of the nation of Israel and partakers of God’s
covenant. By adoption, through faith in Jesus Christ, the
Gentiles now have full citizenship. The Gentiles who
wholeheartedly believe Jesus is Lord have been grafted into the family
of Israel [of promise] and God. (See Romans 11:24, Romans
2:28-29, Acts 2:37-38, John 8:39 & 44).
“Therefore remember
that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called
"Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision," which is performed in
the flesh by human hands-- remember that you were at that
time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel,
and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without
God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were
far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself
is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier
of the dividing wall,” (Ephesians 2:11-14 [NASB])
"for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and
glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh," (Philippians 3:3
[NASB])
There is just one covenant of
promise, not two. There is not a way for the Israelites to obtain
salvation, and another for the Gentiles. There is not a Sabbath
for the Israelites to keep and different method or day of reverence
toward
God for the Non-Israelites. After Jesus Christ broke down the
dividing
wall, He left just one family, and one doctrine anchored by the same
patriarchs (See Ephesians 2:19-20).
“There
is one body and
one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;
one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over
all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:4-6 [NASB])
“There
is neither
Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither
male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you
belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according
to promise.” (Galatians 3:28-29 [NASB])
While Gentiles who believe in Jesus
have become Children of Promise, Children of God, Citizens of Israel
(though not according to the flesh), there are Israelites who are
Israelites according to the flesh, but have rejected salvation through
Jesus Christ, therefore they are Children of the Flesh (and not of
promise) (See Acts 13:46 & Romans 9:8)
“But
it is not as
though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel
who are descended from Israel; nor are they all children because they
are Abraham's descendants, but: "THROUGH ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS WILL BE
NAMED." That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are
children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as
descendants.” (Romans 9:6-8 [NASB])
“And
you
brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise.” (Galatians 4:28
[NASB])
“So
then you are
no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the
saints, and are of God's household,” (Ephesians 2:19 [NASB])
We are Jesus’ brethren, and share
lineage / heritage.
“to
be specific, that
the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and
fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the
gospel,” (Ephesians 3:6 [NASB])
“For
you have not
received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have
received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba!
Father!" The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are
children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow
heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be
glorified with Him.” (Romans 8:15-17 [NASB])
The Gentiles who have received salvation are no longer considered dogs
(ordinary / common unclean animals that do not reason but go by
instinct. [See Jude 1:10, Acts 10:28 & 2 Peter 2:12]) The
Gentiles are in the sanctified family of God.
“And
He answered and
said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the
dogs."” (Matthew 15:26 [NASB])
"But
a voice from
heaven answered a second time, 'What God has cleansed, no longer
consider unholy.' (Acts 11:9 [NASB])
“Outside
are the
dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and
the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.”
(Revelation 22:15 [NASB])
