Use Of The Name Of Jesus / Yeshua
(Sacred Name Prohibition Of "Non-Hebrew" Translations)

Compiled by Brother L. Harrell

Is this another name (when there is none other given) or a differing pronunciation?  There are variances in vocal expression (e.g., the way the Mexicans say "Jesus" differs from the way the North Americans say "Jesus").  Likewise, there are variances in written expression / communication, which leads to further variances in vocal expression.  Yeshua and Jesus are linguistic variations of the same name referencing the only begotten Son of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  (The definitions do not differ:  both variances are sincere attempts to properly pronounce His name.  Therefore, both pronunciations are holy).

When the name "Jesus" is pronounced using Old English vocal expression, it is evident how little the Hebrew and English transliterations vary.  It is mercy the Lord desires, not perfect pronunciation.  The Lord came to save, not to resolve the
language barriers

An example of a
variance in a name (Note the transliteration of Elijah's name.  Compare how they differ):

Matthew 11:14 (KJV)  And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

Matthew 11:14 (NLT) And if you are willing to accept what I say, he is Elijah, the one the prophets said would come.

The Lord has proven that He accepts the Hebrew transliteration & articulation, e.g., "Yeshua", the Greek-English transliteration & articulation "Jesus" [as well as, but not limited to the Greek-Spanish transliteration & pronunciation / articulation of "Jesus"] as conveyance of the name referenced by Matthew 1:25, Acts 4:12, etc.  That being the case, it is very dangerous for those that show disrespect and contempt for the various dialects of the Name that is above all names.

The kingdom of God isn't perfect pronunciation. (See Romans 14:17).  The Lord is aware of the language barriers.  He originated them [and can and does translate the languages when He desires (See Acts 2:4-8)].  Many in their zealousness for the name of the Lord have made themselves transgressors.  (Seek the Lord for more clarity if necessary).

Genesis 11:9   Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Exodus 20:7   Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Acts 11:9   But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

The Kingdom of God is not the use of the word / name "Yahweh":

I John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Luke 24:46-47 (KJV) And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Something for the so-called "Sacred Name" believers to contemplate:

In Acts Chapter 2, people from around the world heard their own native tongues being spoken as the Lord gave utterance (and this still continues to this day).  If I under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit speak the name of the Messiah and it comes out in another person's native tongue, what way will the Messiah's name be verbalized for the hearer?

If I [while gifted with the gift of various tongues] say "Jesus", and the Holy Spirit translates the name "Jesus" to Yeshua, are you bold enough to tell the Lord you hate the name He translates / regards as Yeshua?  If the [purportedly] Hebrew "Sacred Name" pronunciation is the only articulation consecrated and acceptable, then why is another pronunciation being translated under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit?  Are you going to tell the Lord He can not speak any pronunciation except the one the "Sacred Name" believers have decided is the correct Hebrew pronunciation?  I think not.  If the Hebrew pronunciation is the only acceptable one, then why are not the original scriptures we MUST regard around for His people to follow?  (How can you follow something that is not available?)

Even Sacred Name Believers don't agree as to the correct Hebrew pronunciation and spelling of the Messiah's name.  What nerve those overzealous people have that try to force their indecisive and inclusive beliefs on others.  (This is not an accusation that all Sacred Name Believers walk
contemptuously).

If one were to fulfill the great commission, spreading the gospel around the world, it should be evident that [general] knowledge on this subject is imperative.  (Trying to force your transliterated name of Jesus on those that speak another language [and therefore they likely will have a transliteration that varies from yours] would bring about strife).

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

1 Corinthians 12 :3 (Tyndale New Testament) Wherefore I declare unto you that no man speaking in the spirit of god defieth Iesus. Also no man can say that Iesus is the Lord: but by the holy ghost.

The Messiah, Jesus Christ, is the head of the Church.
Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Jesus Christ left more than two or three witnesses to establish the truth and build His church upon.

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Matthew 18:16b in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

Since the enemy comes to "steal, and to kill, and to destroy", the Lord is needed to do His job and see to it that what He started gets completed.  Jesus Christ is no fool, and will complete what he started.  He did not die and leave us without a witness of His name which salvation comes.  He left us a promise and He is faithful to deliver on His Word.  (Jesus Christ does not teach us principles of finishing what we start, just to foolishly fail to adhere to the same Himself).

Luke 14:28-30 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

Ecclesiates 5:4-5 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

The Lord has left Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, Paul and others to decently and orderly teach us the name whereby salvation comes.  (What good is it to establish a church and not leave what is necessary for it to exist without confusion ; a nation divided can not stand).  That being said, where are the ancient scriptures with the name Yeshua instead of Jesus (if it was so that we were not to call on Jesus Christ)?

1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

Concerning the scriptures I'm aware of that my Lord has made available to finish what He started, the name of the Messiah to call on unto salvation is written as "Iesous" (that is written in English as Jesus).  I say this not to condemn the name of Yeshua or speak against the name Yeshua (which I believe to be the same name), but to declare, the record I have found bears the name of Jesus / Iesous.  I am convinced the Holy Spirit has confirmed to me is His name is Yeshua (a.k.a. Jesus).
